Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the drone was detected last Tuesday near the US missile defense base at Redzikowo.
He told reporters that "all required procedures were followed," including notifying law enforcement authorities responsible for investigating violations of drone flight restrictions.
"The drone was not flying over the American base," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
"According to the information I have received, there was no threat to the base in Redzikowo," he added.
He said he was waiting for a "full report" on the incident and that consequences would follow if any shortcomings were identified.
The incident was first reported on Monday evening by Polish news website onet.pl, which said an unauthorised unmanned aircraft had been detected near the base.
The report said that instead of neutralising or shooting down the drone, the military activated procedures that included a duty officer calling the 112 emergency number.
The defence ministry said on Tuesday morning that the civilian drone had been detected about 1 kilometre from the base.
The ministry said the drone was not operating over the base but that its flight violated an area where unmanned aircraft are prohibited.
The drone was continuously monitored by military air defence systems and did not pose a threat to the base, the ministry said on X.
Authorities also identified the location of the drone's operator, according to the ministry.
"Under the procedures in force in the Polish Armed Forces, institutions and services, including the police, were notified of the incident," the ministry said.
"The object was monitored under full control and the drone did not approach sensitive facilities at the Redzikowo base," it added.

The Redzikowo base hosts a US Aegis Ashore missile defence system that forms part of NATO's missile defence architecture, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
